David De Candia - Juror
David De Candia has revolutionized the tea business for The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® since 1997. As Global Director of Tea, he is responsible for all aspects of the company’s tea production, from sourcing tea from the world’s finest tea estates to creating the company’s signature tea blends.
David first joined The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® to work in distribution. He quickly took an interest in tea and taught himself the intricacies that surround the art and science of the ancient beverage. David successfully incorporated direct sourcing and buying of all teas, all hand-crafted manufacturing processes and all in-house tea manufacturing practices.
Today, David continues to personally select, purchase and hand pluck the best tea from family-owned estates across eight countries. He has extensive knowledge in multiple tea origins in regards to the various processing methods, tea grades and sustainability issues.
David has conducted numerous tea education classes, and shared many tea knowledge forums at the World Tea Expo, Specialty Tea Institute, international tea trade shows like the Hong Kong Tea fair. In addition to this he has worked with the culinary institute promoting the cooking with tea and teaches Tea Specialist Classes in all of the Coffeebean and Tea Leaf thirty countries around the world that supports the over one thousand Coffeebean and Tea Leaf cafes.
David has continued to judge both the hot tea and iced tea championships for the North American Tea Championships and the Hong Kong Tea fair.
He creates and evaluates all tea blending, manufacturing and packaging processes at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf®’s Roasting and Distribution (RAD) facility in Camarillo, California to ensure the highest quality tea from seed to cup.
In October 2014 David was appointed the Ambassador of Pure Ceylon Tea by the Sri Lankan Government and the Sri Lankan Tea Board. He is charged with educating consumers about the Pure Sustainability aspects of Pure Ceylon Teas.
